MYTHS ABOUT EPS
The popularity of expanded polystyrene as an insulator is due to its excellent performance properties. It is easy to install, does not rot, moisture resistant, and its main advantage is the low price compared to other types of insulation materials.
Recently, however, on the Internet we often come across a lot of unverified claims about the shortcomings of polystyrene foam as an insulating material.
We offer you today, with us to dispel the most popular myths about foam.
Myth 1. Styrofoam is burning
In the production of expanded polystyrene boards for construction in the raw materials add flame retardant, which deprives the foam of the property of burning. Foam with flame retardants does not support the combustion process, does not spread fire and belongs to the flammability group G1. The time of self-combustion is not more than 4 seconds and when the fire source is removed, expanded polystyrene stops burning – goes out.
Myth 2. Foam is eaten by rodents
The answer to this question is quite simple – No! And all because the molecules of expanded polystyrene consist exclusively of carbon and hydrogen. The foam does not contain any nutrients for rodents.
This is confirmed by the fact that rodents do not “eat” other related materials, which also consist of hydrogen and carbon – and this is a lot of household items that are in our house.
With the correct and competent choice of material, high-quality installation of foam, the question of rodents does not even arise.
Myth 3. Styrofoam is bad for your health
Foam is not dangerous and is considered an environmentally friendly insulation material, which has been confirmed by many studies.
The British rating BRE * assigns polyfoam the highest class of environmental friendliness A +.
Also, it should be noted that the products of the company “Eurobud” are confirmed by a certificate and have the right to use the eco-label “Green Crane”.
This mark confirms that the products of TM “Eurobud” meet the requirements of environmental criteria for assessing the life cycle of products set in SOU OEM 08.002.016.048 “Heat and sound insulation materials. “Environmental criteria”.
Myth 4. Styrofoam is not durable
Eurobud, on the basis of the State Research Institute of Building Structures, has officially confirmed the term of effective operation of polyfoam without losing its primary properties for at least 50 years. Which indicates a long service life of the product.
Myth 5. Styrofoam absorbs moisture
Laboratory tests have shown that in the first 24 hours after immersion in water, expanded polystyrene absorbs liquid. However, this is a maximum of 1.5 – 2% of your own weight. After that, the absorption of liquid by the foam completely stops. The material does not lose its insulating properties.
